SPEAKER PANELS FEATURE A VARIETY OF HEALTH SERVICE PROFESSIONALS

Student-led panels helped HSA freshman learn more about exciting fields from health advocacy to music therapy and more.

A key component of the HSA model is providing students with access to medical and allied health professions and professionals.  To that end, HSA held regular health service focused speaker panels during the 09-10 school year.  Speakers were sought from a diverse range of medical and allied health professions so as to give students a comprehensive view of the varied fields of study and practice.

Prior to each panel, students studied profiles of the featured careers and were tasked with coming up with questions that would help them better understand both the career and the panelist.  A selected student moderator began each the panel by welcoming the speakers and asking a few general questions about their work, education and background.  It was then opened up to give all students an opportunity to ask their questions.

Panelists during this first year represented the fields of health advocacy, forensic science, athletic training, occupational therapy, physical therapy, counseling, music therapy, fire fighting/first responders, and genetic counseling.

We are so grateful to all of the incredible professionals who journeyed to HSA to talk with our kids.  By sharing the experiences they have gained through their education and career, they not only helped to inspire the next generation of health care professionals, but also gave HSA students the opportunity to build vital connections between their current academic classes and real world occupations.

We look forward to continuing these panels throughout the coming school years.
