CLUBS AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

In addition to the academic components of the Work-Based Learning Program, students are provided with optional, health focused, enrichment opportunities.  Current programs include:

  • Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) is a national student organization that helps to prepare future healthcare professionals by providing unique leadership development and scholarship opportunities.  HOSA members have the chance to participate and/or compete in area, state and national leadership conferences, and to meet and learn from outstanding leaders in health professions and education.  The PBS-HSA HOSA chapter was formed in 2009 and meets after school.

  • Peer Health Educators – Through a partnership with Westside Family Health Clinic, health educators train HSA students in sexual development, reproductive health, birth control, STD’s, healthy relationships, substance abuse, and risk reduction skills. Participants share opinions, ask questions, and actively participate in a wide range of activities. The objective is to have the participants learn risk reduction techniques and to empower them to act as educators and advocates to their peers, thereby increasing safer practices amongst younger people.
